Remembering the Children with Orange Hearts
Remembering the Children with Orange Hearts
Reading of With Our Orange Hearts in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
September 30, 2022 marks the second annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. The Chinese Canadian Museum stands in solidarity with Indigenous peoples to observe and honour this significant day and ongoing efforts we must all make for reconciliation.
On September 30, the Chinese Canadian Museum will be offering a live English, Cantonese, and Mandarin reading of With Our Orange Hearts, a children’s book written by Phyllis Webstad and illustrated Emily Kewageshig, at our Vancouver exhibition space. Guest presenter Esther Leung-Kong will also speak about the significance of Orange Shirt Day, and introduce some phrases in Cantonese and Mandarin. This program is geared for visitors of all ages, but particularly suitable for young children and families.
This special program will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel to allow everyone across the province an opportunity for learning, reflection, and action to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools. Both our Vancouver and Victoria exhibition sites will feature resources to further individual learning and for families to introduce this important topic at home.
Friday, September 30, 2022
Program begins at 2:00pm and runs until 3:00pm.
Visitors are welcome to arrive early or stay beyond the event to view our exhibitions and engage with related learning materials.
Location: 27 E. Pender Street, Vancouver
