Lucky Red Decorations
Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or 春節 (Spring Festival), is celebrated across the globe this year on January 29. In preparation for the new year, Chinese people customarily hang up lucky decorations in the colour red, such as lanterns, door banners, and paper cuttings.
Ring in the new year by crafting your own lucky red decorations to bring home in a fun afternoon of family-friendly drop-in crafting! Learn about the traditional folk art of Chinese paper cutting and make your own lucky design with 福 on it. 福 (pronounced as fú in Mandarin and fuk in Cantonese) means “good fortune” and is often hung upside down in the doorway or window during the new year so that luck and prosperity will pour into the home and bless all who pass through.
All materials are provided and free with museum admission from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M., while supplies last.
