Tracing Chinese Canadian Heritage and Finding Your Ancestral Village

The Qingming Festival (清明節; also known as Tomb Sweeping Day) is a time to honour and pay respect to the ancestors through visiting their graves and making offerings for them to keep in the afterlife. This year it is observed on April 4.
But what if you don’t know where your ancestors lived to pay proper respects to them? In this webinar, hear about the experiences of four Chinese Canadians who traced their family history back to the Sze Yup (四邑) region in Guangdong Province to visit their ancestral villages. Learn about some of the resources and support available to find your own ancestral village and the value of heritage conservation.
This Qingming, honour the early Chinese pioneers who migrated across the Pacific to settle in Canada through learning about their journeys and cultural practices.
