Reshaping Collections: Where History Meets Art

Ad banner 1 (2).jpg

Featuring unique art by six diverse Chinese Canadian artists from across the country, this exhibition explores the rich tapestry of Chinese Canadian history, intersecting with contemporary art to offer innovative perspectives on our collective heritage.

An innovative feature of this exhibition is the use of portable 3D scanning technology, used to scan historical objects in creating new artworks, challenging the boundaries between art, object, and history. The artists were invited to create new artworks — various forms of art and visual media — derived from their historical research in the renowned Chung Collection at the University of British Columbia Rare Books and Special Collections which contains more than 25,000 items. This exhibition also features animation, film, and child-friendly wall text along with illustrated activities made exclusively for the exhibition.

This exhibition is made possible with research support from the UBC Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections.
